LUCA VITONE
for eternity
premise for a trilogy
march 8 – may 30
INAUGURATION
Friday, March 7, 6 p.m.
La Rocca Foundation in Pescara is pleased to present Luca Vitone’s solo exhibition, For Eternity. Premise for a Trilogy, curated by Francesca Guerisoli.
The exhibition presents for the first time in full the entire body of work arising from the achromatic monolfactive sculpture Per l’eternità (55th Venice Biennale, 2013). The subtitle Foreword for a Trilogy refers to the fact that for eternity was the first of three consecutive projects by Vitone based on the sense of smell, exploring the link between memory, place and sensory perception in relation to power. The work focuses on the ability of smell to activate memories and deep connections, challenging the traditional boundaries of contemporary art.
The smell that characterizes for eternity, obtained from the combination of two notes of rhubarb, will permeate the air of a room in the foundation, symbolically evoking eternit and inviting visitors to reflect on the tragedy of asbestos. Other works on display include the sculpture for eternity (eternit) and the video for eternity, made in 2013, a visual and narrative testimony to Casale Monferrato.
Also on display are two new works created especially for the occasion: a photographic triptych composed of a collage with rhubarb plants and the work Stanze (La Rocca Foundation), a portrait of the exhibition space.
